Performs semiskilled to skilled trades duties. Assists with special projects and contractor oversight.Responsibilities of the Trades Specialist III
- Performs routine maintenance and service duties in areas such as carpentry/remodeling, painting, masonry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing. Helps perform routine repairs, maintenance, and installation of plumbing systems including fixtures and lines. Operates and maintains necessary tools and equipment. Replaces and repairs doors, windows, and locks. Performs minor repairs and maintenance on buildings such as installing glass, patching floor coverings, and sheetrock, simple framing with metal or wood and building concrete forms. Installs, maintains, and repairs the following: electrical units and motors, appliances, lights, electric circuits, generators, equipment, plumbing and HVAC. Preventative maintenance is also applied in these areas. Locates, evaluates, and repairs trouble occurring using electrical equipment.
- Assists with special projects focusing on construction and renovations. Assists Facilities Maintenance Manager with contractor oversight.
- Assists in maintaining inventory of supplies needed in maintenance and grounds. Maintains and services fire extinguishers and exit lights by checking on a monthly basis.
- Participates in set up for events including, but not limited to transporting and setting up stage, chairs, podiums, lighting, and banners/backdrops.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements State Minimum Requirements: Formal training or trades experience that is directly related to the area of employment.NETC Minimum Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license. NETC Preferred Requirements: A high school diploma and two years of directly related work experience; or a 10th grade education and four years of directly related work experience. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment. Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in the designated trade. Knowledge of techniques, methods and practices used in the designated trade. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to comprehend blueprints, plans, and specifications. Willingness to work in confined spaces. Additional Comments Under direct supervision of Facilities Maintenance Manager, employee will be given tasks daily to be completed in a satisfactory and timely manner. The employee in this position must manage a wide range of construction, repair, maintenance, and service functions, including both rough and finish carpentry, application and repair of vinyl siding and other specialized exterior materials, as well as supervising outside contractors for various maintenance services. This individual must be able to prioritize projects and manage time and resources effectively. The ability to interact with others both inside and outside the institution is critical.Position requires ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly, 100 lbs. occasionally, and work outside in various weather conditions. During adverse weather or emergency conditions, employee may be called in to work alternative hours to restore college to normal state. Routine local travel to all NETC campuses.
