Location: Virginia Beach,VA, USA
The planning, design and maintenance of City roadways is managed by multiple Public Works agencies who work together to ensure the safe and efficient movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Our Traffic engineering division is seeking a Traffic Aide I/II who can join a team of dedicated professionals and fulfill the functions of the position. This posting may be filled as a Traffic Aide I or Traffic Aide II depending on the qualifications of the selected applicant.
The person in this position will:
* Assemble maps with other data to ensure required information is available for traffic studies and surveys
* Assist in performing on-site traffic surveys to compile data on volume, speed, direction, pedestrian traffic and visibility obstruction
* Research police accident reports to gather accurate data for traffic studies
* Research federal, state, and local traffic control laws, ordinances, and regulations to understand what regulations apply in different situations
* Take citizen concerns by phone and/or email and respond to their concerns with good oral and written communication
* Prepare and process work orders for new installations of signs and pavement markings
* Review intersections for visibility obstructions for sight distance compliance and prepare letters for removal when appropriate
* Review right-of-way encroachments for traffic safety hazards and prepare letters for removal when appropriate
* Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs
