May be placed on standby call on a rotating basis.**This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.** Typical Duties
- Assists with the installation and maintenance of traffic signals, signs and devices such as traffic islands, street name signs, and painted traffic control lines.
- Assists with field studies to determine traffic volume, speed, effectiveness of signals and other factors influencing traffic conditions.
- Assists with electrical repairs in all city facilities.
- Climbs ladders or stands in tower-truck to reach traffic devices.
- Under direct supervision, test circuits and electronic components to detect faulty equipment.
- Under direct supervision, replaces blown fuses and bulbs, faulty transformers, timers, electrodes, and wires using electricians hand tools.
- Constructs and installs regulatory signs.
- Will be required to carry a pager when assigned stand-by duties.
RequirementsMinimum Qualifications:
- Requires a high school diploma or GED. Requires one-year experience in electronics or electricity; or equivalent.
Licenses and Certificates:
- Valid New Mexico Drivers' license or equivalent.
- Must have or obtain within one year a nationally recognized Level I Certification in signing and marking and a Level I in Traffic Signals.
Knowledge skills and Abilities:Knowledge of:
- Reading and understand plan drawings and electrical circuit diagrams and schematics is preferred.
Skills in:
- Welding preferred. Experience involving electronic or electrical repair is preferred
Ability to:
- Understand and follow basic safety precautions, rules and regulations; interact diplomatically with public.
Physical Requirements
- Moderately heavy work involving frequent standing, walking, balancing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and squatting; pushing, pulling and lifting items weighing up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to the drug testing policy. Essential duties are predominantly performed outdoors with exposure to all types of weather conditions. Employee is exposed to airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, electrical hazards, and extreme temperatures, travel from site to site, work around traffic and heavy construction equipment. Use of safety shoes, glasses and other equipment is required.
