Job Purpose:Transports raw materials and commodities by determining modes of transportation and routing.Duties:* Directs transportation of raw materials and commodities by developing methods and procedures for transportation of raw materials to processing and production areas and commodities from departments to customers and warehouses.* Determines routing and method of transportation by studying tariff manuals and motor freight and railroad guidebooks.* Controls scheduling of shipments by notifying departments or customers of arrival dates.* Protects shipments by investigating causes of damages or shortages in consignments or overcharges for freight or insurance.* Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.* Provides information by answering questions and requests.* Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.* Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.* Maintains inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.* Maintains traffic department staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.* Maintains traffic department staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.* Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.Skills/Qualifications:Legal Compliance, Supervision, Safety Management, Reporting Skills, Scheduling, Analyzing Information , Dealing with Complexity, Deadline-Oriented, Time Management, Problem Solving, Process Improvement
