The Operations section of Public Works is currently seeking a Traffic Operations Superintendent to oversee traffic field operations and to assist with emergency response efforts to natural and man-made disasters. The ideal candidate will be experienced in performing duties in a local government setting and who can inspire and motivate employees to achieve the Department's mission in an efficient and effective manner.Responsibilities include:
- Conducts field investigations to determine needs for traffic engineering operations.
- Plans, assigns, schedules, and supervises related traffic activities such as the erection, installation, fabrication, repair, and quality control inspection of traffic control devices.
- Oversees and approves expenditures and prepares reports. Writes specifications for and maintains supply of tools, materials, and supplies.
- Investigates and responds to traffic inquires by phone, correspondence, or in person.
- Performs related tasks as necessary such as laying out street closings and detours.
- Ensures employees receive safety and equipment training.
- Performs supervisory such as work order data entry, timecard management and approval, evaluation of work, counseling staff, etc. Establishes performance measures.
- Assists and executes activities during inclement weather/emergency management response (12-hour shifts) to natural and man-made disasters before, during, and after emergency conditions in order to restore essential City services.
Requires the ability to perform work outdoors in all weather and to lay out work zones (including coordination with Miss Utility). Requires knowledge of traffic signals, pavement markings and work zone safety, and the ability to plan jobs and match with resources. Ability to maintain work orders, logs, forms, records, material expenditures, equipment status, and other work related information and to perform data entry to capture such information. Experience in Kronos and Maximo desirable. IMSA Signal Leve 1, IMSA Pavement Marking Level 1, and VDOT Advanced Work Zone Safety certifications preferred.Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field. Requires a minimum of four years of full-time equivalent experience. Requires a valid Driver's license that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires a bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience in civil engineering or a closely related field. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of four years of related, full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance withCity Driving Standards . SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
