Job Description:

This is technical work requiring the application of electrical and electronic theory in the installation, maintenance, and repair of signalized traffic control equipment. This includes signalized intersection traffic control controllers, relays, signalized intersection traffic control cabinets, signalized intersection traffic control monitors, vehicle detectors, and other traffic control devices. This work involves using test equipment (multimeter, loop tester), troubleshooting signalized traffic control equipment, routine signalized traffic control equipment maintenance, investigating reports and repairing malfunctions of signalized traffic control equipment. The work includes maintaining the inventory of parts and materials, maintaining records on the service, test, and repair of signalized traffic control equipment and performing other duties as assigned.

Salary: $22.35 - $40.15 Hourly

The starting salary and selection into Traffic Signal Technician, at level I, level II, or level III, will depend upon qualifications and experience. The entry level pay for the Traffic Signal Technician II is $26.23 hourly; and Traffic Signal Technician III is $27.49 hourly.

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

* Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.

* Possess a valid Driver License.

* Obtain the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Temporary Traffic Control Technician certification and the Traffic Signal Technician I certification within twelve months of appointment to the position as a Traffic Signal Technician I.

* Possess the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) certification as a Temporary Traffic Control Technician and a Traffic Signal Field Technician II at time of appointment to the position as a Traffic Signal Technician II.

* Possess the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) certification as a Temporary Traffic Control Technician and a Traffic Signal Senior Field Technician III at time of appointment to the position as a Traffic Signal Technician III.

* Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

* Be skilled in the use of a personal computer.

* Be able to work various hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

* Be able to employ proper lifting techniques and lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.

* Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, an applicant must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

* Have some knowledge in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic and non-electronic signalized traffic signal control equipment.

* Have experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic and non-electronic signalized traffic signal control equipment.

* Able to read and understand plans, blueprints, schematics and sketches of signalized traffic signal control equipment.

* Have supplemented their education by successful completion of approved technical courses in basic electronics.
