Richmond District Traffic Operations is seeking safety conscious individuals to perform traffic signal maintenance in accordance with all established safety standards, VDOT policies, procedures and operational standards. Position will monitor and troubleshoot computerized traffic signal systems and devices; make required timing and data changes using automated systems/software and other tools; and respond to complaints and emergency traffic signal malfunctions. Troubleshoot control cabinets and other auxiliary traffic control equipment using wiring diagrams and intersection prints. Conduct routine checks of signal components and perform preventative maintenance and repairs. Communicate effectively with the public and police departments regarding traffic signal operations and repairs. Must be willing to work outside normal business hours and during emergency conditions. Position will serve in an on-call rotation.

Minimum Qualifications
* Knowledge of traffic signal maintenance and operations
* Ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritize multiple competing assignments; keep detailed and accurate records.
* Valid Driver's license
* Knowledge of management systems to include timing plans, graphic design and computers use
* Ability to serve in an on-call capacity and respond to emergency situations within a specified period.
* Ability to use a variety of hand tools and testing equipment to perform maintenance on traffic signals
* Ability to physically perform hands-on inspections of signals, components, use required equipment, work at heights, in confined spaces, in proximity of moving traffic and in inclement weather.
* Knowledge of a variety of traffic control devices, signal equipment and their operation.
* Ability to effectively communicate technical information orally and in writing, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
* Skill in providing and promoting good customer service to internal and external customers.
Additional Considerations
* Knowledge of applicable federal, state and VDOT rules, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
* IMSA Roadway lighting certification
* A combination of training, experience, or education in Electronics or related field desired.
* Electrical or signal experience
* Commercial Driver's license (CDL)
* IMSA Traffic Signal Level I technician certification.
