Salary: $15.42 - $22.36 Hourly Location : Grapevine, TX Job Type: Part-Time - 19 hours or less per week Job Number: CVB2303-6 Department: Convention and Visitors Bureau Opening Date: 07/11/2024 Closing Date: 10/13/2024 11:59 PM Central Job Summary Under direct supervision, the Train Service Personnel I will work alongside Breakman, Conductor or Fireman to learn the job duties of each position. Essential Functions
  • Work alongside Breakman, Conductor or Fireman to learn job duties of each position.
  • Assist in performing preventative maintenance inspections on locomotives and passenger coaches and related equipment.
  • Assist in completing required reporting, record keeping and required FRA forms in a timely, accurate and organized manner.
  • Assist in Roundhouse operations to include, but not limited to, the proper use, storage and maintenance of tools, supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure that fellow employees and passengers have a safe and pleasant experience.
  • Ensure equipment, facilities and grounds are secure, clean and well maintained.
  • Ensure all records, files, forms and logs are well maintained and organized.
  • Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
  • Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
  • Required SkillsSKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY?
    • The Train Service Personnel I will attend required classes in Personal Safety, Railroad Operating Rules, Federal Safety Rules, Train Handling Practices, and Mechanical Condition of Equipment.
    • The Train Service Personnel I must pass all written tests and skill performance evaluations in order to satisfactorily complete the course.
    • The Train Service Personnel I will adhere to the rules and regulations of the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, FRA, and state and local ordinances.
    • Must be proficient in office procedures with skill in operations of computers and communicating verbally and in writing.
    • Knowledge of the safety standards for passenger trains and related equipment.
    • Knowledge of federal railroad inspection standards.
    • Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in servicing and repairing steam, gasoline and diesel equipment.
    • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment mechanics, including internal combustion engines and hydraulic and electrical systems.
    • Ability to identify abnormal reading or trends in data collected from gauges, meters, dials, instruments, etc. according to established formats.
    • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
    • Ability to diagnose defective operations and excessive wear on mechanical equipment parts and components.
    • Ability to diagnose and repair railroad equipment.
    • Ability to determine functional interrelationship of parts within a mechanical system.
    • Ability to interpret technical reference manuals.
    • Skill in operating a variety of equipment used in railroads maintenance and repair functions and operations including but not limited to forklifts, steam and diesel locomotives, passenger coaches, railroad switches, turn tables, two-way radio and a variety of hand and power tools.
    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIRMENTS High School Diploma or GED is required. Must be at least 18 years old. Positions requires applicant to attend and satisfactorily complete the FRA required training courses included in the Operating Rules and Special Instructions manual of the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. Must pass all testing and complete a minimum of 6 over-the-road skill performance evaluations within 30 days of employment. Must posses the ability to interact and entertain passengers. Must be willing to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays. Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy. Must pass a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration driver's license check. Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment screening (Level 1). Must pass a pre-employment Department of Transportation Railroad (FRA) vision and audio screening. Will be subject to periodic random drug and alcohol testing. Will be subject to Department of Transportation Railroad (FRA) vision and audio screenings every three years as required by law.
