Serves as a liaison with program staff at the Office of Investigation (CG-INV) and Office of Commercial Vessell Compliance (CG-CVC).Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
  • Developing total course content to meet defined performance objectives for Prevention courses under the Marine Inspection and Investigation School.
  • Contributing to the planning, developing, evaluating, and revising stages of the curriculum lifecycle in the areas of marine casualty investigations, suspension and revocation, and vessel inspections.
  • Planning, developing, and implementing training policy/procedures and corresponding external evaluation governing the administration of assigned courses.
  • Facilitating meetings with personnel from various organization, program offices, other Federal agencies to address issues of student evaluations, course prerequisites, course objectives, and student failure and attrition statistic.
  • Delivering Marine Casualty Investigation, Suspension and Revocation, and Vessel Inspection curriculum in accordance with applicable policy and procedures for in person and online training and serve as a public speaker.
  • Advising on Marine Casualty Investigation, Suspension and Revocation, and INV concepts as applicable to Coast Guard investigation policy and procedures equivalent to a Senior Investigative Officer or higher.
  • Advising on Marine Inspections and CVC concepts as applicable to Coast Guard commercial vessel compliance policy and procedures equivalent to an Advanced Journeyman Marine Inspector or higher.

    • Experience on vessel hulls, vessel load lines, vessel construction and applicable standards
    • Interaction with vessel owners or masters on required corrective actions
    • Experience investigating deaths, injuries, property loss, and environmental damage in the maritime industry determine the associated human performance, equipment, and environmental casual factors and making critical safety recommendations to prevent recurrence.
    • Experience investigating merchant mariner negligence, misconduct, incompetence, and dangerous drug use leading to appropriate remedial suspension or revocation.
    • Experience investigating criminal and civil offenses for assessment of civil penalties or referral for criminal prosecution.
    • Interaction with members of various law enforcement groups, maritime companies, ship pilot associations, and federal and local government agencies.
    • Assisting in development, maintenance, and review of applicable agency aids, job aids, tactics, techniques and procedures and other identified performance support interventions.
