Not eligible for telecommutingIn accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.Position Summary:The Montessori Training and Support Coordinator will be responsible for providing teachers and school leaders with training on implementing Montessori core curriculum in alignment with the vision of excellent instruction and school's Tactile Improvement Plan (TIP). They will also be responsible for designing and delivering District-wide professional development and supporting Montessori PreK - 8th grade teachers and school-based staff with analyzing and acting upon student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments. This role includes instructional coaching in Montessori classrooms across PreK - 8 grade bands in multiple DPSCD Montessori schools. Ideal candidates will demonstrate understanding of and experience with the following:Montessori philosophy and pedagogyPreK-8th grade Montessori curriculumInstructional coachingEducation and Experience:Master's degree in education or relevant fieldMontessori certification, elementary certification preferredMichigan Teaching Certificate or ability to apply for and obtain certificateA minimum of 5 years teaching or leading a Montessori learning environmentExperience with Principles of Adult Learning and how to apply them to professional developmentExperience providing curriculum support to teachers using the Montessori MethodExperience providing community support to parents of students in Montessori learning environmentsExperience supporting school leaders and teachers with developing a high-quality Montessori Method of education programStrong working knowledge of MI State Common Core StandardsAbility to work professionally with all educational partnersCore Competencies:Excellent written and verbal communication skillsHigh level of interpersonal and communication skillsStrong project management skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks and prioritize appropriatelyAbility to work independently and proactivelyProven organizational skills, high attention to detail, and superior time managementFluency with using digital tools including Microsoft Office and SharePointAbility to manage, monitor, evaluate, and ensure integrity of program and core instructional materials implementationGrowth mindset, with commitment to ongoing learning and willingness to be flexible to meet evolving educator needsAbility to work effectively with district and school leadersDuties/Responsibilities & Functions:Provide school administrators, teachers, and support staff with coaching and training on developing and implementing Montessori curriculum, guidance documents, and pacing guidelines aligned with the Montessori Method of education for students in grades PreK-8.Provide school administrators and teachers with coaching and training on aligning the Montessori PreK - 8 curricula with MI state standards.Support school-based staff with executing a high-fidelity Montessori education program across grade bands PreK-8.Support school-based staff with executing the vision for excellent instruction by conducting observations, modeling lessons, and providing targeted coaching and differentiated strategies for student and teacher success across grade bands PreK-8.Maintain accurate and thorough records and documentation of professional development and school support logs.Maintain consistent, professional verbal and written communication with school administrators regarding school support.Ensure compliance with State of Michigan childcare licensing regulations as pertains to PreK learning environments.Ensure compliance with district processes and procedures as it relates to partnerships, programming, and professional development.Draft communication as it pertains to ongoing Montessori professional development, curriculum initiatives, and Montessori teacher certification requirements.Coordinate with Montessori teacher certification partners to support adult learners with the certification process.Review existing professional development programs and propose new learning opportunities in response to classroom needs.Review and analyze assessment data to develop targeted coaching plans and differentiated strategies for student and teacher success across grade bands PreK-8.Develop and execute high-quality professional development¿in core content areas, aligned with the District's Vision for Excellent Instruction.Coordinate with professional development partners to enhance and support professional development¿workshops¿provided by District vendors.¿Demonstrate a commitment to anti- bias/anti-racist principles and the affirmation of student and staff identities; support Montessori school-based staff in developing and sustaining culturally responsive instructional practices.Fulfill other duties as assigned.Security Clearance:Internal ApplicantsIf you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.External ApplicantsIn alignment with Michigan law, if you are hired to fill a position, you will be required to submit to a Detroit Public Schools Community District criminal background check.
