Salary: $34,148.72 Annually Location : NC 28779, NC Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time Job Number: 20240237 Department: Transportation Opening Date: 12/16/2024 Closing Date: 1/6/2025 5:00 PM Eastern FLSA: Non-Exempt Position Overview The Transit Dispatcher is responsible for receiving and scheduling transportation service requests, maintaining radio communications with drivers throughout the day, planning and arranging daily trip schedules, managing transit driver work hours. Duties include answering phone, utilizing specific computer software to schedule and dispatch vehicles and drivers. Grade 18 Duties and Responsibilities
- Receives and schedules service requests
- Assign drivers and vehicles to fulfill the daily trip schedules. Responsible for maintaining a 40-hour week for full-time drivers and a 20-hour week for part-time drivers.
- Interacts with representatives of other agencies and citizens throughout the County
- Operates radio dispatch system, monitors activity and location of drivers and vehicles
- Receives documents and secures monies received by drivers.
- Prepares and maintains trolley ticket books and monthly passes.
- Maintain petty cash and receipts for petty cash purchases.
- Maintain and update client information as well as entering monthly trips for the Home and Community Care Block Grant.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses or Certifications: Possession of a valid, State of North Carolina driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of County and departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of the general layout, roadways, and landmarks of Jackson County.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Excellent customer service skills, and maintain a professional, approachable, and cooperative relationship with clients, drivers, and co-workers.
- Ability to multi-task and maintain composure in a high energy position.
