Classification........................................Certified Licensed - 10 month - 195 days FLSA Status.........................................Exempt Reports to............................................Program Administrator/Coordinator and/or Transition Coordinator Salary Classification................................NSSEO Salary Schedule - starting at Lane I Step 0 Reviewed/Revised..................................03/2022PURPOSE: The Transition & Career Specialist will support the transition process of students from school to community by implementing a person-centered approach to collaboratively develop goals and transition action plans. Under the supervision of the Program Administrator and Transition Coordinator, the Transition & Career Specialist will coordinate transition activities within a team comprised of the student, parent/guardian, educators, and service providers, to ensure that transition and vocational activities and services are addressed and implemented for each eligible student.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Serve as a district liaison with area businesses, advisory groups, and agencies to encourage the further development of school-to-work opportunities. • Provide community awareness activities concerning employing people with disabilities. • Collaborate with case managers to prepare for transition action planning meetings and the IEP process. • Collaborate with teams and families related to transition planning and community job placements. • Develop a continuum of vocational experiences in partnership with IEP teams including school and community-based opportunities. • Orient the community employer to the student and work training plan. • Assists district personnel with all aspects of transition and vocational planning. • Facilitates and Implements Transition Action Planning Activities. • Investigates and shares ideas regarding post-secondary options and adult services and networks with all appropriate community agencies and organizations. • Meet with parents on a regular basis to advise them on programs and services offered within the district, community and state agencies. • Works directly with students within a vocational and transitional framework in order to mutually explore career options and interests. • Provides input for curriculum improvement to enhance student abilities in acquiring age appropriate independent skills. • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other members of the educational team for each student assigned. • Will create and present staff development training to enhance the ability of the educational teams to support our students. • Create, develop and manage all community sites and in school job experiences. • Obtain and maintain school bus permit endorsement on license to support transporting students to work sites and CBI. • Support site managers and job coaches. • Supervise student payroll. • Schedule and maintain student transportation. • Work with Program transition Leadership team to support building curriculum and instruction teams.OTHER FUNCTIONS: • Assume responsibility to communicate with all staff involved with assigned students. • Assume responsibility to maintain current knowledge of community resources and • Vocational services. • Assume responsibility for continued professional growth. • Ability to visually and auditorily monitor student performance and behavior. • Ability to model good language and vocabulary. • Ability to travel within NSSEO and the community as necessary. • Assume other duties and special projects as assigned. • Support NSSEO policy, NSSEO and Governing Board goals and objectives, and The School Code of Illinois.WORKING ENVIRONMENT: • To perform the physically demanding job functions, strength and/or endurance for lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling are occasionally required. • To perform the most physically demanding job functions, the physical capabilities of climbing and balancing are seldom required. • To perform the most physically demanding job functions, the physical body movement of stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling is seldom required. • To perform the most physically demanding job functions, the upper extremity physical capabilities reaching, handling, and/or fine motor dexterity are constantly required. • Exposure to temperature extremes is seldom or not present. • Exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g. mechanical, cuts, burns, infectious disease, high decibel noise, etc.) is seldom or not present. • Frequency of exposure to injury to self and/or others is seldom or not present. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:• Valid Professional Education License endorsement in one of the following areas: LBSI, LBSII Transition Specialist, Pre-Vocational Coordinator, Career and Technical Coordinator, or Vocational Coordinator. • At least two years' experience in special education, emphasizing transitioning from school to work. • Familiarity with transition, career and vocational services for youth. • Special education vocational preparation/career education experience preferred.Attachment(s):
