Position Type: New London Adult & Continuing Education/TutorDate Posted: 8/22/2024Location: New London Adult and Continuing EducationTitle:Adult Education Transitions Associate (11-month, $35/hourly rate) Reports to: Director of Adult Education Supervises N/A, Non-supervisory position Primary Funtion: To support students in all mandated programs (CDP, GED and ESL) with college and career coaching. The Transitions Program Associate conducts career navigation and individualized post-secondary services providing linkage to college, career preparation and training, and/or workforce opportunities. Typical Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Guide students in career exploration, college knowledge, and job search activities. Expose students to occupational information and opportunities, financial aid, scholarship events, and American Job Center resources. 2. Complete the CT State Department of Education Career Navigator training program. 3. Utilize the Career Cruising planning platform to provide individualized career and college advisement. 4. Host informational sessions for students on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process and career and training opportunities offered in New London County. 5. Assist students with post-secondary planning including college and/or employment application completion, meeting timelines, researching best-fit colleges, and submitting financial aid and scholarship applications. 6. Maintain detailed records of college and career events and student contact, and conduct required follow up of recent graduates for the Literacy, Adult and Community Education System (LACES) database documentation. 7. Conduct orientation sessions for students regarding the services of the Transitions Program Associate and deliver presentations for College and Career Readiness classrooms. 8. Assist with the development and implementation of the Program Enhancement Project (PEP) grant applicable to supporting the college and career readiness standards. 9. Lead the Transitions Advisory Board and convene biannual meetings of partners from Higher Education, the American Job Center, Adult Education, and community agencies to guide program initiatives. 10. Collaborate regularly with other members of the Transitions Advisory Board, the School Counselor and Adult Education Administrators concerning activities and program progress. 11. Serve as the facilitator of the Student Leadership Council. 12. Participate in appropriate community meetings and committees relevant to the goals of the grant. 13. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience Ability to work flexible hours (evenings) Knowledge of college readiness and academic success needs for secondary completion program students Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to communicate with a diverse community of learners Proficient computer skills to include Word processing skills, EXCEL, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams Group presentation skills Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment Human Resources Department Ability to use varying approaches and techniques that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multi-cultural workplace Bilingual (English and Spanish) Counseling experience Experience with the college application process, including the Common Application Experience working with an Adult Education program Prefomance Evaluation: Annually by the Adult Education Director or Designee New London Public School District is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
