Role Qualifications:A Power Utility Engineer will be responsible for activities such as site walks, computer modeling, sizing structures, and transmission line components, designing foundations, coordinating with survey/geotech/manufacturers, creating a bill of materials, communicating with internal and external project managers, applying customary engineering design principles, and critical thinking.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
- Pursuit of or have passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Understanding of design software to develop the design deliverables. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs. Experience with PLS CADD and AutoCAD is a plus.
- Interest and/or experience with tower structures (pole, lattice, guyed).
- Ability to comprehend and interpret safety codes, utility standards, and regulations (NESC, ASCE, IEEE).
- Basic knowledge of design, calculations, and design systems.
- Basic knowledge in the theory and practices of engineering discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines related to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve appropriate design or drawing issues and accomplish objectives.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to develop estimates and budgets.
Key Responsibilities: - Assist in the design of high voltage (69 kV to 500 kV) transmission lines using PLS-CADD.
- Creation of comprehensive drawing packages within the utility infrastructure industry for transmission line systems.
- Mentorship under professional power engineers.
- Participating in site walks for current projects. Less than 10% travel.
- Perform computer modeling and sizing of structures and transmission line components.
- Coordinating with Survey/Geotech/Manufacturers.
- Assist in preparing engineering drawings from rough sketches or general engineering and design information (verbal instructions and notes) using CAD software programs.
- Assist with a full range of drawing production work, including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on substantial variety and complexity of non-routine assignments.
- Assist with various assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components, and refining rough sketches.
- Assist with initial rough designs, sketches, redlines, or mark-ups on ongoing projects.
- Assist with analyzing reports, drawings, and tests, to plan and design projects.
- Apply design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
- Complete and review design drawings within scope, budget, and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
- Incorporate schedules, budgets, and project criteria into transmission design and layouts.
- Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files, and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.
