VisionGift currently has an opening for a Tissue Distribution Specialist position in our Boston location. This position is responsible for coordinating the complex logistics behind bringing sight-restoring corneal transplants to patients in need. This position is the primary contact for surgeons, schedulers, and Portland, OR Tissue Distribution Specialists in regard to east coast distribution events.

A successful TDS at VisionGift East (VGE) will have the opportunity to carry out the following functions for VG:

• Distribute VGE tissue, both transplant and non-transplant, per VG policies and procedures
• Develop skills in matching transplant corneas with patients and surgeons, taking into account surgery type, surgical suitability, surgeon preferences and VG processing schedule
• Learn to track inbound and outbound shipments using multiple shipping interfaces, following up with end users as needed
• On occassion, hand-deliver tissue to local hospitals and surgery centers
• Network with other eye banks and partner entities to facilitate fulfillment of transplant needs
• Build and manage the VG surgery schedule by processing tissue requests
• Occasionally facilitate surgeon/resident/fellow training by organizing wet labs and distributing training tissue
• Work closely with Portland TDS staff to manage the flow of ocular tissue between Portland, OR and Boston VG locations
• Learn to navigate and maintain a highly developed database to carry out daily functions
• Maintain a professional demeanor and interact well with others
• Evaluates tissue and determines surgical suitability as needed
• Other duties as assigned by management
• Requires occasional Holiday and On-Call shifts

Requirements:

A successful candidate will have:

• A high school diploma or equivalent;
• Computer proficiency, including experience with Microsoft Office software;
