Transportation Coordinator

Viking Forest Products is a premier commodity trading company in the wood products industry. Due to our continued consistent growth and the increased volume of loads, we are looking to hire a Transportation Coordinator to join our growing team!

In this role, you will work in our trucking department and focus on the dispatch of LTL and FTL container and van shipments. The Transportation Coordinator position is responsible for activities related to the dispatching of loads to carriers. This position will work with the members of Viking's trading and distribution teams to service our customers and suppliers with timely booking and dispatching of trucks.

Essential Functions:

• Handle communication for dispatching truck shipments by TMS, phone or email in response to the available loads each day.
• Ensure that scheduled shipments are in compliance with interstate trucking laws, regulation and company policy.
• Negotiate freight rates with carriers and brokers – transactional and contractual.
• Maintain existing carrier/broker relationships and prospect, as necessary, for new potential transportation providers.
• Quote freight rates to members on the trading floor on future business.
• Follow up with carriers/brokers for pick-up and delivery confirmation.

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor's degree with minimum three years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Van, Intermodal and LTL dispatching experience
• Experience dispatching over the road van shipments
• Experience working with ports
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and great phone skills
• Excellent attention to detail and exceptional accuracy skills
• Understanding of Invoicing/Inventory Management is also a plus
