Spartan Logistics is a third-party logistics (3PL) company headquartered in Columbus, OH. We specialize in a unique logistics model: We own and operate our own warehouses, fleet, forklifts, and other key equipment. We have decades of experience in fast-moving inventory, especially food and beverages, and also are veteran handlers of glass, paper, automotive supplies, and more. With our staff of more than 350, we operate over 4 million square feet of warehouse space strategically placed throughout Ohio, Indiana, South Carolina, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Georgia, Tennessee and Texas.We are looking for a Transportation Coordinator to join our corporate team in Columbus, OH. This role is responsible for ensuring that all transportation operations comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and for managing the dispatching of drivers in the Columbus, OH area. This role requires a dedicated understanding of DOT compliance standards, effective coordination of dispatch activities, and a strong ability to communicate with drivers. What You'll be doing as a Transportation Coordinator:Dispatching Functions:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Columbus drivers, providing clear instructions and timely updates on schedules and operational changes.
  • Develop a strong relationship with all Drivers within assigned fleet
  • Owns and tracks KPI's for Columbus freight department
  • Work closely with other departments, including operations, fleet maintenance, and customer service, to ensure smooth logistics operations.
  • Offer support to drivers for any issues that occur while en route, including troubleshooting problems and providing necessary resources.
  • Responsible for various administrative duties, including driver payroll, billing, weekly revenue tracking and reporting.
DOT Compliance Functions:
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of DOT regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) rules, vehicle maintenance requirements, and driver qualifications.
  • Performs audits of driver qualification files and ensures all medical certificates, driver's licenses, annual Clearinghouse queries and DOT Random drug screens are up-to-date and in compliance with FMCSA regulations.
  • Performs dash cam audits to ensure safe driving and compliance for all company drivers.
  • Reviews New Driver Qualification paperwork and checks for accuracy following the Driver Qualification checklist. This includes processing the Clearinghouse and National registry verification.
  • Administers Annual DOT MVR checks for all company drivers.
  • Assists with accident investigations.
  • Monitors hours-of-service requirements of company drivers and make certain all FMCSA regulations are met.
  • Conducts regular internal audits to assess DOT compliance, as well as assist in external audits by regulatory authorities
  • Monitor driver behavior, vehicle conditions, and other relevant metrics to identify and address any potential compliance issues. Generate and analyze reports for management review.

RequirementsWhat you'll need to be successful:
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or dispatching, preferably with a focus on DOT compliance.
  • Transportation dispatching experience preferred.
  • Good character and integrity!
  • Previous experience working with transportation management software (TMS) and electronic logging devices (ELD), preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills that include proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite functions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure, and handle time-sensitive operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in the office Monday - Friday between 8am-4:30pm
