Ragan Smith is seeking a full-time Transportation Designer with an assignment in local program monitoring to join our Transportation Engineering team in Nashville. The ideal candidate has strong communication and collaboration experience. This position will have an opportunity to work on a broad range of projects with a focus on public sector work and community planning and design, including assisting TDOT with local programs coordination and monitoring. The Transportation Designer will have the ability to work on roadway design and active transportation projects while getting first-hand experience in local project management. Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining project structure, budget, and schedule
- Review planning and design documents throughout a project lifecycle
- Gain understanding of program regulations, laws and provisions of contracts and grant agreements, and achieve program objectives
- Assist communities in pursuing potential grant opportunities and assisting with project
- Assist in the coordination of transportation activities, including preparation of grant and sub recipient applications, contracts, project schedules, progress reports, technical reports, and invoices
- Identify errors, omissions, and potential conflicts on applications, contract documents, estimates, reports, and plans
- Assist in transportation design plan production, studies, and analyses through project software
- Horizontal and vertical geometric design
- Stormwater/erosion prevention and sediment control/traffic control design
- Support project managers in meeting project goals and providing quality deliverables
- Additional related duties as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
- 0-3+ years of experience in civil or transportation engineering
- Experience with MicroStation, Geopak, OpenRoads or AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing time efficiently
- Strong communication and community engagement skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of TDOT design guidelines and standards
- Experience in transportation design and development of roadway plans
- Understanding of roadway design guidance from AASHTO
- Proficiency with MicroStation, Geopak, OpenRoads or AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Tennessee EI Registration
