Position SummaryThe mission of the Transportation Engineer is to deliver quality engineering and design documents that are constructable and meet the critical success factors defined for the project. Performance Objectives:
  • Work under supervision of a licensed engineer to prepare design computations, design documents and quantity estimates.
  • Use computer-aided design software to produce transportation project construction documents.
  • Show responsibility for job specific quality as defined by the Transportation Practice Quality Management Plan.
  • Help drive project financial success by completing project tasks according to provided schedule and hourly budget.
  • Work within a collaborative team environment to collectively meet established goals.

  • Assist in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.

  • Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering plans and reports.
  • Review the construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents.
  • Show responsibility for job specific quality as defined in a Practice's or Project's quality control plan.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction documents, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation or modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction documents, studies, permits, and designs for various projects.
  • Assist in the development of construction cost estimates for various projects.
  • Exercise some independent judgment with limited decision making.
  • Work under the supervision of a licensed engineer to prepare design computations, design documents, and quantity estimates, with increasing proficiency and independence.
  • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Follow policies and procedures set forth in the CDG Employee Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Assist with the preparation of project deliverables according to the planned direct labor and expense budgets outlined by the Project Manager or Practice Leader.
  • Communicate effectively with the Project Manager or Practice Leader to understand established schedule milestones, as well as direct labor and expense budgets.
  • Efficiently manage time towards completion of assignments within schedule and budget.
  • Successfully achieve the financial goals set forth for your position (quality work within project budgets, direct labor hours, etc.).

  • Successfully maintain CEU's and licensure as assigned/required.
  • Actively pursue licensure as a Professional Engineer. [DW1]
  • Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.     • BS degree in civil engineering with 2-5 years of experience or MS/MBA degree with 1 year of experience.
    • Roadway Design experience preferred
    • Preferred EI
    • Valid driver's license.
    Skills:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
    • Basic level of computer-aided design using AutoCAD, Civil3D, and/or OpenRoads required.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Seeing, hearing, talking, standing, stooping, bending, walking, reading, and writing.
    • Reaching with hands and arms.
    • Ability to lift 25 lbs. or more.
    • Ability to work extended hours at times.
    Environment:
    • Predominantly office environment: some overnight travel is required.
    • The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate.
    • Occasionally works in outside weather conditions, possibly for extended assignments.
    • The noise level on the construction site is often loud.
