As the next transportation planning specialist 14, you would be responsible for:

  • Preparing, providing expertise on, and serving as the sole technical expert and NEPA manager for the environmental and planning needs of Office of Major Projects (OMP?s) complex, major and innovative delivery projects following required international, federal, state, and local environmental and planning guidelines and regulations, including NEPA documentation (PEL, EA, EIS, re-evaluations, technical reports, and Notes to File) and preparation.
  • Providing guidance to MDOT?s senior management and OMP?s senior project managers on documentation and decisions, as well as being the sole person negotiating and making decisions with FHWA on the required NEPA documentation.
  • Acting as OMP?s recognized technical expert and liaison between the major and innovative delivery project teams, OMP?s senior project managers, the governor?s office, and other state, federal and international staff.
  • Overseeing and providing technical expertise and guidance concerning environmental clearance procedures as they relate to complex major and innovative delivery projects, specifically regarding community demographics and concerns with recommendations including mitigation measures. Continued coordination within the department, other state agencies, local, FHWA, and international agencies, as needed or required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEEducation Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with at least 30 semester (45 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: planning (city, community, environmental, regional, and/or urban), environmental studies and/or sustainability, engineering, statistics, mathematics, geography, geographic/geospatial information systems, logistics and/or supply chain management, or economics. Experience Five years of professional experience equivalent to a Transportation Planner, including three years equivalent to a Transportation Planner P11, two years equivalent to a Transportation Planner 12, or one year equivalent to a Transportation Planning Specialist 13.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND INFORMATION
