- Direct the loading and unloading of students to prevent unsafe conditions;
- Follow and adhere to Hanover County School Board Policy and Regulation Manual and all state and federal laws governing motor vehicles;
- Assist in the supervision of safe evacuation measures in the event of an emergency evacuation;
- Secure car seats and other safety restraints; Ensure that student's seat belts are fastened at all times;
- Maintains appropriate levels of fuel; Perform a daily pre?trip and post?trip inspection of the vehicle;
- Maintain records and prepares reports on student behavior;
- Use established routes and designated car stops;
- Report car accidents and student injuries to authorities;
Traffic Guard
- Controls traffic to allow flow of school transportation vehicles, parent and student drivers to and from school;
- Maintains awareness of present or potential traffic hazards in the area surrounding assigned crossings;
- Promptly informs building administrator of any hazards and possible corrective measures to be taken;
- Reports violations of Va. Code to Sheriff's department;
Transportation Attendant
- Stays abreast of the students' physical and/or emotional disabilities and uses appropriate procedures in assisting them;
- Assists the driver in emergency evacuation planning and drills; Becomes familiar with all routes to and from schools to be of assistance to driver;
- Operates hydraulic-lift equipment for the purpose of loading and unloading of wheelchair confined students;
- Provides basic first-aid and/or prescribed health care as necessary for special needs students (e.g., apnea, asthma or other respiratory conditions assistive devices, g-tubes, shunts, oxygen, technological dependence, tracheotomy tubes, medical devices, administers emergency medications, etc.);
- Secures each student into his/her location with child safety restraint system, seat belts, wheelchair tie down and securement equipment or other safety equipment when required;

- Pass pre-employment, safety and annual physical testing; Pass all random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Drug Testing Policy; Participate in meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. as required for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions;
- Attends first aid, CPR, defensive driving classes, and in service safety meetings as required;
- Administer disciplinary and safety procedures in keeping with school board policies and administrative regulations; Report student misconduct to the proper school authority;
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills in keeping with division regulation;
- Maintains order and enforces safety rules. Follows authorized discipline procedures and guidelines with fairness and consistency; Cares for the students;
- Remains alert and exercises good judgment concerning emergencies, disabled vehicles and irregular special requests by parents of students;
- Arrive promptly at scheduled arrival time.
- Care for any vehicle assigned for the purpose of performing the duties in the area of assignment; Takes responsibility for maintaining the vehicle to the transportation garage for scheduled maintenance and when necessary, unscheduled maintenance;

Qualifications: KSA's, Education KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Exhibits a positive image as a representative of the school division. Demonstrated: knowledge of rules and regulations promulgated by local, state and federal authorities; knowledge of state laws and local ordinances; alertness and good judgment concerning emergencies, disabled vehicles and irregular special requests by parents of riders. Requires the ability to operate: all vehicle types used in transporting students; a radio communication device; all emergency equipment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Required: High school diploma or equivalent; Three years driving experience or successful completion of a recognized driver education program with ability to demonstrate satisfactory proficiency behind the wheel. Must have and maintain a good driving record. Must be able to meet state requirements for appropriate licensing and physical examination. Preferred: Familiar with the operation of the two?way radio and all radio procedures.
