IntroductionTrap Pond was once the site of a large freshwater wetland and still hosts the country's northernmost natural stand of baldcypress trees. Summary StatementA variety of seasonal park positions may be available at Trap Pond State Park:Park Naturalist: ($14.00 - $16.00) - responsible for developing and conducting interpretive programs that will increase the student's and visitor's awareness of their surrounding environment and foster the appreciation, enjoyment, and utilization of Delaware State Parks' cultural and natural resources.Facilities Coordinator: ($15.25 - $17.50) - responsible for booking and facilitating rentals, events, and programs through the baldcypress Nature Center at Trap Pond State Park.Work is performed indoors and outdoors, weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled to meet facility needs. Essential FunctionsEssential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.May develop and facilitate educational programs for schools and special events.May lead school environmental education programs tied to state standards to increase student understanding of Delaware's natural and cultural resources.May deliver interpretive programs to participants of all ages in a variety of contexts.Provides general customer service and park information to visitors.Distributes interpretive publications.May lead educational and recreational hikes, canoe and kayak trips plus programs for park visitors.May include live animal care and handling.Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.Maintain a positive attitude.Other duties as assigned.Job RequirementsPlease attach a resume with your online application or use the resume tab in DEL to provide a detailed description of how your education, training, and/or experience meets each job requirement including employer, experience/responsibilities, and dates (month/year) of employment/training.Applicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:Park NaturalistSix months experience planning and delivering interpretive programs for adults and children.Six months experience coordinating and promoting special events or initiatives.Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.Knowledge of natural history, anthropology, entomology, ornithology, cultural history, recreation science, and/or ecology.Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).Facility CoordinatorSix months experience coordinating special events.Six months experience in using standard computer software programs for work processing, spreadsheets, or databases.Six months experience in cash handling, writing receipts.Knowledge of contract management and control which includes compliance with terms of contracts.Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).Additional Posting InformationThis posting may be closed on or before 12/2/2024 upon filling the vacant position(s).
