Position Title: R3 Youth Development Trauma Counselor Location/Dept.: Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community CenterReports to (Title): Arts & Education ManagerMISSIONThe Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center of Chicago exists to express the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army through a safe, enriching, and sacred environment where all individuals have access to opportunities to reach their physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual potential. The Vision of the Chicago Kroc Center is to impact individuals, families and seniors of the Southside while building community, promoting excellence, motivating wellness, teaching character, and encouraging faith.OUTCOMESCounselor will provide trauma-informed supportive services, education, and counseling to clients and their families, who desire assistance with their problems.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To provide each client with positive, professional and quality service; always promoting respect dignity and fairness to each client; while making appropriate referrals which will assist clients in reaching their maximum level of independence.
  • Services are provided for individuals and families.
  • A variety of groups are lead including educational, process, and support groups.
  • Client's charts are maintained in an organized order and according to policy.
  • Client treatment plans are written and monitored with the client according to program polices.
  • Referrals for clients to other outside private and public agencies are arranged as appropriate.
  • Staff meetings are attended and counselor is involved in staff committees as requested.
  • Records are kept and statistical and other required reports are accurately prepared within specified time requirements.
  • Work schedules will be followed. It is understood these may vary and could include some evening and weekend shifts. Changes in shift assignment may be made according to needs of the program.
  • All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
  • Certified in the State of Illinois as a Certified Counselor.
  • Must maintain certification status with IAODAPCA.
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Two years of previous experience as a Counselor.
EXPERIENCE
  • 2 years or more of experience working with children and/or adults in a classroom environment.
  • Experience with a computer-based work environment and an excellent working knowledge of Word.

  • Able to work as a team member as well as independently.
  • An excellent attention to detail, procedures, processes, and policies.
  • A communication and management style that exhibits the principals and values of the Army as well as fosters team relationships and effectively communicates information.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage projects, priorities, and programs in a constantlychanging environment.
  • Must be able to provide individual counseling and group counseling to clients as well as assessment. Have the ability to work cooperatively with the supervisor, other clinical and support staff.
  • Must have a strong sense of integrity and be able to work with confidential material.
  • A hands-on knowledge of how to effectively work with diversity in the workplace.
  • Well organized, attentive to time management and able to establish a separation of work and personal boundaries.
  • Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.
POSITION LIMITATIONS This individual will accurately represent the mission of The RJKCCC, they will keep the Arts & Education Manager informed of all critical issues relating to his/her area of responsibility and adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. WORK ENVIRNOMENT Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
