Job Description:
Position Overview:

An Interventional Radiologist is a highly specialized physician who uses imaging techniques (such as X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, and MRIs) to guide minimally invasive procedures aimed at diagnosing and treating various medical conditions. This role requires expertise in performing complex procedures such as catheter placements, biopsies, angioplasties, stent placements, and more, all while maintaining patient safety and delivering high-quality care. Interventional Radiologists work closely with other specialists and medical teams to provide effective treatment for conditions affecting a wide range of organ systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Minimally Invasive Procedures:

    • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under image guidance, including but not limited to:
      • Angioplasty and stenting
      • Biopsy (liver, lung, kidney, etc.)
      • Drainage procedures (biliary, pleural, abdominal)
      • Embolization (e.g., for tumor treatment or to control bleeding)
      • Percutaneous image-guided catheter placements
      • IVC (Inferior Vena Cava) filter placements and retrieval
      • Endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) for varicose veins
      • Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty for spinal fractures
  • Diagnosis and Treatment Planning:

    • Review medical imaging, including CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds, to assess patient conditions and determine the appropriate course of action.
    • Collaborate with referring physicians and multidisciplinary teams to develop patient treatment plans.
    • Communicate with patients to explain procedures, expected outcomes, and possible risks.
  • Patient Safety & Care:

    • Ensure all procedures are performed in a sterile environment with strict adherence to safety protocols.
    • Manage patient anesthesia and sedation when necessary during procedures, working with anesthesiology teams as required.
    • Monitor patients pre- and post-procedure to ensure a smooth recovery and identify potential complications early.
  • Post-Procedure Management:

    • Provide follow-up care and instructions to patients after interventional procedures.
    • Interpret post-procedure imaging to evaluate the success of the intervention and plan next steps if necessary.
    • Manage complications such as bleeding, infection, or thrombosis, and perform interventions as needed.
  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Document all procedures, diagnoses, patient interactions, and outcomes in compliance with hospital or practice regulations.
    • Ensure accurate, timely reporting of diagnostic and procedural findings to referring physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Collaboration & Consultation:

    • Work in close collaboration with other specialists (e.g., surgeons, oncologists, cardiologists) to manage complex medical conditions.
    • Provide expert consultation to other medical professionals regarding interventional radiology treatments.
    • Participate in tumor board meetings, clinical rounds, or case discussions to contribute to patient management.
  • Research and Education:

    • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments and advancements in interventional radiology.
    • Participate in academic activities such as research, teaching, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Train and mentor radiology residents and fellows in interventional radiology techniques.
