**Job Title:** Medical Assistant**Job Specialty:** Cancer-Sessional**Job Duration:** **Shift:** Day M-F, 9am-5pm**Guaranteed Hours:** **Experience:** Two years of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant is strongly preferred.**License:** **Certifications:** Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), preferred BLS certification upon hire or to be obtained within 3 months of hire**Must-Have:** High School diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) Completion of a six-month to one-year course in Medical Assisting from an accredited school Basic medical terminology Electronic Scheduling and Electronic Medical Record experience**Job Description:** - Perform a variety of clinical and office duties under direct supervision- Adhere to performance standards, policies, and behaviors- Fulfill patient care responsibilities including organizing patient flow, assisting patients, obtaining patient history, and performing screenings- Assist providers/nurses with procedures, charting, and relaying instructions to patients/families- Manage tasks such as sending/receiving patient records, scheduling procedures, obtaining pre-certification for health services, and verifying insurance coverage- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms, ensuring supplies' par levels- Assist providers with management of EMR and EHR- Participate in the patient care team, attending daily huddles and practice team meetings- Perform medical/surgical asepsis, obtain vital signs, and assist with physical examinations- Assist in the collection and handling of laboratory specimens- Perform electrocardiography and other specific tasks- Adhere to infection control standards, including hand hygiene and equipment disinfection- Respect and promote patient rights and respond appropriately to emergencies- Travel to various practice sites may be required- Lift and transport objects up to fifty pounds and assist patients of all weights with a minimum of one assist or assistive device- Handle potential exposure to chemicals necessary for tasks, with access to the hospital's Safety Data Sheet databaseThe responsibilities and tasks outlined in this job description may change as determined by the needs of the organization.
