Job Title: Registered Nurse Job Specialty: Emergency Room Job Duration: 12 months Shift: 12-hour Nights, First to Float Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active RN License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: Successful completion of an advanced dysrhythmia test with a minimum score of 83% within three attempts Job Description: - Work in a Level III trauma, STEMI, and stroke receiving center with an 18-bed unit, including 4 critical rooms used for trauma or codes. - Fast Track unit available; separate Triage area where travelers are allowed to staff. - Responsibilities include intermixed care for ER holds and standard ER duties. - Treat an average of 70 patients per day, with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3-4 depending on acuity. - Common patient diagnoses: pediatrics, cardiac issues, STEMIs, strokes, general ER conditions such as abdominal pain and respiratory issues. - Expected to handle all common drips typical in an ER setting, including pressors and sedation. - Support from 24-hour in-house MDs, with staggered mid-levels for busy times. - Charge nurse is generally patient-free, with 2 PCTs per shift available for assistance. - 24/7 in-house security and respiratory therapists are available; RNs are required to conduct EKGs and troubleshoot RT equipment. - No monitor techs; RNs must read and interpret their own strips, with X-ray and CT facilities nearby. - Phlebotomy staff are available for lab draws. - Matrix scheduling aims to accommodate travelers' needs with a requirement to work every other weekend and holidays. - Navy scrubs are required; scrub jackets, if used, must also be navy. - Unit-specific orientation ranges from 1-3 shifts, with a comprehensive checkoff packet to complete with a preceptor. - RNs are not responsible for setting up placement for psych patients; additional resources are available for such cases.
