ROLE DESCRIPTION: The Registered Nurse is an essential member of the healthcare team providing and coordinating services to patients and families. The nurse provides clinical treatment based on the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, plan, intervention and evaluation. The nurse promotes positive experiences and patient/family satisfaction by approaching each patient with dignity, advocacy, compassion, and respect. Nurses have an interpersonal relationship with patients that serve as the foundation for nursing care delivery. The Registered Nurse serves as a liaison between and among members of the healthcare team and providers to ensure optimal patient care.QUALIFICATIONS / PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.LICENSURE: Current Iowa RN license required. BLS required within 90 days of hire, ACLS desirable. Mandatory Reporter training required within 6 months of hire. Specialty certification desirable.EXPERIENCE: Previous nursing experience desirable.KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:Demonstrates knowledge of nursing theory and standards of nursing practice. Familiar with unit policy and procedures. Patient assessment skills necessary. Able to prioritize multiple demands. Treats patient and families with compassion and courtesy.PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE DEMANDS:Physical Requirements: Medium Physical Demand LevelLift/Push/Pull:The employee is required to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis for re-positioning patients, transferring patients, moving hospital beds, performing chest compressions and maneuvering a variety of medical equipment. The employee is required to complete firm grasping on an occasional basis including assessing blood pressure manually, opening medication cartridges, opening supply packages, or grasping a gait belt during patient transfers.Tools and Equipment Used (not limited to):Computer, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, data scope, thermometer, oximeter, scissors, gloves, IV bags/IV pole, various wound care supplies, medication, hospital bed, patient cart, CPM, wheelchair, gait belt, assistive devices for patient transfers including the EZ Lift, EZ Stand, Ceiling Lift or Hovermatt, crash cart and oxygenKey to Frequencies:• Occasional: 1-33% of the shift• Frequent: 34-66% of the shift• Continuous: 67-100% of the shiftWORKING CONDITIONS/EQUIPMENT:Requires the ability to learn new skills in the use of equipment and computers. Participates in medication reconciliation process, contributes to the nursing care plan, and nursing care conference.• Assists in creating a positive work environment by mentoring of staff/students, and working with team members to develop and facilitate initiatives to strive for positive outcomes in quality and care of patients.• Complies with all policies and procedures, and guides team members with compliance.• Reliable attendance is an expectation of the team member role.Professional Growth:• Assumes responsibility for continued growth in areas of competencies, continuing education, and involvement in unit and hospital based quality of care projects.
