Job Overview:We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Step Down Unit (Medical/Pulmonary) at [Facility Name]. This is a critical care environment requiring advanced nursing skills and a comprehensive understanding of patient care needs. The RN will provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients who are transitioning from intensive care to a less intensive setting but still require close monitoring and specialized medical management. This position is for a rotating shift and requires weekend and holiday availability as scheduled.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to patients in the Step Down Unit with complex medical conditions, including but not limited to pulmonary, cardiac, and post-surgical care.
- Perform invasive monitoring, including the management of central lines, arterial lines, and hemodynamic monitoring.
- Administer advanced treatments such as Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Non-invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NIPPV), and mechanical ventilation with endotracheal tube (ETT).
- Care for patients requiring new tracheostomies or transvenous pacing.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Perform regular patient assessments, including Neurological assessments (NIHSS), respiratory function, and cardiovascular status.
- Ensure patient safety by adhering to evidence-based practices and hospital protocols.
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, specialists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care.
- Float to other hospital units as needed to meet patient care demands.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Pulmonary or Cardiac Step Down Units.
- Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN).
- Advanced knowledge of ventilator management, NIPPV, and trach care.
Additional Information:
- This position is not open to local candidates within a 50-mile radius of the facility.
- The facility may cancel shifts up to 3 times during the duration of a 13-week contract, and up to 2 shifts for contracts less than 13 weeks.
- Floating to other units is required as part of the role, which may include other medical/surgical areas within the facility.
