**Job Title:** Sterile Processing Technician **Job Specialty:** Sterile Processing **Job Duration:** 13 weeks **Shift:** 8-hour day shift, 5 days per week **Guaranteed Hours:** 40 hours per week **Experience:** 6 months of experience preferred **License:** N/A **Certifications:** CRCST / CSPDT Required **Must-Have:** Computer skills required **Job Description:**- Promote improved quality and patient safety in the operating room by ensuring the efficient flow of the Sterile Processing department.- Perform routine tasks related to the decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment and maintain records in compliance with applicable standards, including AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA.- Demonstrate awareness and understanding of what is at stake with patients in the operating room.- Facilitate the department's preparation for staff to pass survey/regulatory assessments.- Sterilize supplies and instruments using prescribed methods, such as steam and gas plasma (Sterrad).- Operate washer/decontaminator per department policy and procedure.- Understand the basic principles of all sterilization equipment used in the department and demonstrate knowledge of proper packaging for successful sterilization.- Follow manufacturer's recommendations and validate the proper functioning of all equipment using established mechanical and biological monitors.- Assure that sterilized supplies and instruments are correctly labeled and stored to ensure sterility and compliance with any applicable regulatory guidelines.- Ensure all quality, infection prevention, regulatory, and Joint Commission Standards are upheld at all times.- Demonstrate technical skills needed to establish and maintain High-Level Disinfection (HLD) processes.- Utilize computerized tray/instrument tracking systems, if applicable.- Apply knowledge of the dress code related to Standard Precautions and consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).- Report any life safety issues, environmental concerns, or process deviations to the immediate supervisor.- Maintain a customer-friendly rapport with peers and internal/external customers.- Provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.- Record work activity as prescribed by department policy.- Assist in the transportation of sterilized instrumentation to the operating rooms as needed.- Verify that required instrumentation has been sterilized and is available for next-day, call, or weekend cases.- Assist in removing soiled case carts or unsterile instrumentation from the operating room department.- Respond to problem calls from Surgery during regular business hours.- Floating may be required to any location within sixty miles of the original assignment or identified float zone.- Float assignments may include duties outside of original assignment job requirements in accordance with policy.
