From our humble beginnings as a gathering of parents and concerned citizens who wanted to provide educational and training opportunities for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, The Resource Center has grown into a comprehensive agency providing services to thousands of persons with all types and levels of disabilities.The Resource Center is the largest non-governmental employer in Chautauqua County with more than 1,300 employees on its payroll.The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life.PHLEBOTOMISTRESPONSIBLE TO:Nurse Manager/DesigneeFUNCTION: Performs venipunctures and fingerstick, process medical laboratory tests and document results for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Serves as a back-up for clinical team members as needed.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of medical laboratory principles, standards, applications and tests; knowledge of medical laboratory safety, cleanliness and infection control policies and regulations; ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly; maintain confidentiality, complies with HIPAA; friendly, cheerful and helpful to individuals supported; ability to pay attention to the minute details of a task; ability to adapt easily to changing conditions and work responsibilities. Computer skills sufficient to carry out assigned duties. Must possess reliability, adaptability, and flexibility. Willingness and ability to travel for work as needed or assigned is essential. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalent required; associates degree of higher preferred. Six or more months of Phlebotomist experience required. SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Obtain blood specimens from individuals supported within residential services per laboratory orders by performing venipunctures and finger sticks. Communicate, interacts and assists the individuals supported and staff in a professional and courteous manner. Adhere to established laboratory procedures, methods, quality control, quality assurance, safety, including hand hygiene techniques and precautions., Agency, compliance and personnel policies. Review the schedule for lab draws, verifies and completed the orders. Order and maintain adequate laboratory supplies.
