TREE CLIMBER

The Department of Public Works & Parks seeks applicants interested in the full-time position of Tree Climber. Responsibilities consist of performing a variety of manual tasks related to the trimming, pruning, spraying and removal of trees within the city. Typical hours consist of Monday - Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, but may be required to work any 8 hours in a 24 hour period, and work any 5 days of the week. Employees in this classification are eligible for overtime.
Key features for all Tree Climbers include:
* Considerable knowledge of tree climbing, trimming, treatment and removal methods.
* Extensive knowledge and ability to tie knots used in Forestry operations.
* Ability to acquire skill in the use and care of ropes, knots, climber hooks, riggings and tools commonly used in tree trimming and felling operations.
* Ability to perform manual work requiring considerable strength and endurance on a daily basis.
* Ability to climb and visually identify trees, and work at heights sometimes in precarious positions.
* Knowledge of the operation of a bucket truck, and the ability to work in truck at great heights
* Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions.
* Candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, reference check and CORI check.
* Subject to pre-employment drug testing. Subject to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.
* Must be willing to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 18 months of employment.
The starting hourly rate of pay is:
* $21.16 per hour
