Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

Position performs tree trimming, right-of-way clearing, line clearance, stump grinding, brush control and an assortment of treetrimming tasks for DMEA's system.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or equivalent required; 1 year or more of tree trimming experience required.

Valid Colorado Class A CDL required upon hire. First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within 180 days of date of hire. Must complete and pass DMEA's select basic electricity modules and tree and bucket rescue and retrieval courses within 1 year of date of hire.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists Operations personnel during outages and related maintenance and construction work. Works from a bucket truck, ground or tree and possess the necessary skills to trim tree and/or fell trees, and remove branches obstructing existing energized lines or proposed electric line routes. Works with power and manual operated equipment, chainsaw, pruner, ropes, hand tools, bucket truck, etc.
  • Maintains, inspects and performs necessary repairs on equipment and tools. Assembles, inspects, loads and transports necessary materials, supplies, and tools as directed. Inspects and services vehicles as required.
  • Assists Tree Trimming Foreman, and Vegetation Management Supervisor as needed. Attends on the job training of technical work techniques and safety equipment procedures. Applies OSHA and DMEA regulations and safety rules necessary to perform the job.
  • Assists Tree Trimming Foreman in obtaining permission from the responsible parties in charge of property where tree trimming and/or right-of-way clearing operations are to be performed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to become competent in a variety of tree trimming tasks including felling, climbing with ropes, saddles and gaffs. Must have or obtain extensive knowledge of the operation of power and manual operated equipment. Must have basic knowledge of equipment maintenance including use and care of PPE. Must have clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. Possess organizational and time management, problem solving and decision-making skills. Must enjoy collaborating with employees to develop effective solutions. Have the ability to handle situations with tact and diplomacy. Must have the ability to work effectively with associates and members is required. Must have knowledge and understanding of electrical distribution and transmission system operation and hardware. Must maintain and apply a working knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), ANSI A300, ANSI Z133, and OHSA 1910.269(r).

Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office skills in Word, Excel and Outlook.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to frequently walk, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, and grasp. Requires the use of keyboard/computer/handheld electronic devices and to make repetitive hand movement motions in the performance of daily duties. Requires vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines in remote locations as well as in urban city environments. Requires frequent walking/hiking/standing on various surfaces including dry, wet, slippery, flat, uneven, rough, steep terrain, hills and slopes. Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Requires finger dexterity, good hearing, ability to speak, and the ability to perform close work. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Office equipment used frequently includes personal computers, related software, copy machines, fax machines, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Regular, predictable attendance is required. Approximately 75% of the work is performed outdoors. Exposure to noise, dust, and all types of weather and temperature conditions. Exposure to hazardous traffic conditions. Driving a company vehicle daily is required; travel by commercial means occasionally may be required.
