Our practice is currently seeking a full-time Triage Medical Assistant to join our team!
This role handles inbound and outbound communications for the practice. These calls involve a wide-range of clinical and administrative requests from patients, including but not limited to visit preparation, medication refills and reconciliation, and follow-up care coordination. The Triage Medical Assistant will work under the direct supervision of a physician, physician assistant and nurse practitioner, providing support to triage nursing staff.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Screens patient telephone calls to the EPGI providers. Calls patient to relay advice, information and instructions from the providers to the patient/pharmacy and hospital.
Responsible for handling telephone calls as directed by Triage Nurse and providers.
Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies per clinician's orders and office procedures. Queries clinical information from the EMR, hospital and laboratory systems.
Assist in contacting patients with abnormal lab/test results and arrange schedule follow up as ordered by the providers when requested.
Counsel patients regarding lab tests, medications, procedures, etc. as requested by the providers.
Obtain prior authorization for medication as needed from insurance companies.
Works well with a diverse group of professionals in a team environment, including RN/LPN.
Education: High School diploma/GED
Experience:
2 - 3 years related experience in medical triage, preferably in a GI setting.
Certified Medical Assistant.
Bilingual in English / Spanish helpful but not required.
Experienced in properly handling confidential and sensitive information; knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations preferred.
Experience with basic desktop software, medical practice management, and electronic medical record systems
Physical Demands: Light to medium duty. 20-50 pounds maximum lifting with frequent lift/cary up to 10-25 pounds. Requires standing for long periods while sitting for others. Repetitive hand/arm movements. High volume of calls. Office setting. Direct contact with patients.
