Squirrel Hill Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), is seeking a dedicated Triage Medical Assistant to join our team. This role is crucial in providing triage services to ensure prompt identification of patients with high-risk conditions, offering health education, and performing various Medical Assistant duties as needed. The Triage Medical Assistant will work collaboratively with staff to provide team-based coordinated care and will travel to any SHHC location for in-office coverage as required.Key Responsibilities:* Communicate with patients via telephone and patient portal, directing them to ERs, urgent care centers, or SHHC providers.* Screen patient situations to estimate the severity of illness/injury, including chief complaints and mental status.* Determine the urgency of patient visits based on brief screenings and patient history.* Use computerized medical information databases and algorithms to guide decisions.* Send patients with high-risk complaints (e.g., chest pain, severe headaches) to ER immediately.* Provide health education, results, and home health advice to patients.* Ensure accurate documentation of all communications in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).* Arrange appointments for patients needing to see a physician.* Coordinate prescription refills and ensure proper documentation in the EHR.* Follow SHHC procedures for ordering and documenting vaccines and lab services.* Process and resolve patient care service inquiries and complaints.* Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.* Participate in staff, clinical, and other periodic meetings.* Foster teamwork and instill a sense of company pride.Qualifications:* Medical Assistant certificate preferred.* Minimum three years of experience as a Medical Assistant; one to two years of telephone triage experience preferred.* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.* Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of clients in person and by telephone or patient portal.* Ability to work autonomously and communicate concerns or needs to the Director of Clinical Operations.* Proficiency in EHR, TEAMS, Outlook email, and other software systems.* Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10, and CPT coding preferred.* CPR certified.* Second language preferred.* Commitment to serving poor and underserved populations.* All CDC recommended vaccine required, including annual flu and COVIDBenefits Offered:* Medical Insurance* Dental Insurance* Vision Insurance* Disability Insurance* Life Insurance* Flexible Spending Account* 403B retirement* PTO* 8 Paid HolidaysSHHC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
