Job Description:
South Umpqua School District has an opening for a Tribal Family Advocate/TAPP Coordinator.Position Summary: Work directly with Tribal students, Tribal families, staff, administration, and the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians to resolve attendance and behavior problems and recommend programs, resources, and in such cases discipline according to school guidelines. Monitor student attendance and systems such as check in/check/out and behavior contracts. This position works under the supervision of the Director of Student Services at the South Umpqua School District, and enforces school regulations and district policy. Primary case manager for Tribal families that are at-risk for attending elementary and secondary schools within the district. To provide in-home instruction and resources to parents and children which will enhance the parents' ability to ensure that their children attend school on a daily basis and succeed academically as well as socially. Maintain ongoing contact with families, and work with other components (health, nutrition, family services, mental health, special services, parent education, Tribal resources, etc.) to integrate services into the family setting.QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree or higher in Education based program with demonstrated proficiency in grant writing, reporting, and data collection.
  • Minimum of two years of progressive professional work experience with Tribal families/groups/youth or at-risk youth and families. School based experience and knowledge of different cultures and education standards is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of customs, culture and nature of Tribal families and Tribal youth.
  • Requires flexible schedule to accommodate family needs and may include early morning, after school, evening and/or weekend hours.
  • Ability to research and create programs based on existing best practices and the ability to integrate cultural necessities into new programming options.
  • Knowledge of social service delivery, community resources, requirements and procedures.
  • Current Driver's License, proof of insurance, and must have the ability to travel for various work locations.
