Under general direction, the Tribal Resources Protection Specialist will play a crucial role in stewarding, managing, and conserving the Tribe's cultural resources throughout the Tribe's ancestral lands. You will work collaboratively with tribal staff, community members, and external stakeholders to support policies, projects and initiatives that support the retention and sustainability of cultural resources including the protection of Culturally Modified Trees (CMTs). This position requires a deep understanding of urban forestry practices and policies, ecological principles, and a commitment to honoring and protecting tribal cultural resources. Essential Duties:
- Develop and implement tribal resources management and stewardship plans and policies that align with tribal values and priorities.
- Conduct research and assessment of external governmental policies impacting Tribal cultural resources including culturally modified trees (CMTs) to inform tribal review and consultation.
- Engage with governmental agencies regarding policies, projects and initiatives impacting urban forests including CMTs.
- Develop training and educational materials related to resource protection.
- Work closely with other Tribal staff in the Governmental Affairs & Special Projects, Archaeology & Historic Preservation, and Environmental and Natural Resources departments on all matters related to resource protection.
- Collaborate with tribal staff, community members, and external partners to integrate traditional ecological knowledge into resource management practices.
- Facilitate educational programs and workshops on resource protection.
- Provide presentations related to resource protection and participate in community events.
- Stay informed about relevant regulations pertaining to resource protection.
- Prepare regular reports, providing updates on the status of resource protection and ongoing conservation efforts.
- Maintain clear records for compliance including grant reports.

Education & Experience:Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in forestry, natural resource management, or a related field; or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for degree requirement.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in resource protection
- Experience working directly with landowners and other external partners with demonstrated positive outcomes.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Washington State Driver's License.
Other Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a thorough pre-employment background investigation.
- Must agree to be subject to the Tribe's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy to include pre-employment screening.
Work Environment:Work is performed both in an office and in the field. The work environment includes an office environment in a controlled atmosphere building. Remote or hybrid work arrangements may be possible in accordance with the Tribe's Telecommuting Policy. Ability to travel to, walk in, and work in remote areas will sometimes be required. Work will require bending, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds, operating mechanical equipment, and walking over rough and brushy terrain. Work performed in an environment which involves everyday risks or discomforts and sometimes adverse weather conditions. - Salaried, compensation will be determined based on experience and starts at $76,159.67 per year. .
- This position is a regular full-time position and employment is at will.
