Joining our staff means working to your full potential in a dynamic and diverse environment that strives for equity for all.Position Summary Accompany, supervise, and lead campers on a variety of adventure trips which may include primitive camping, hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, and rock climbing. Trips may be located on and off camp property while providing 24-hour supervision to campers in grades 4-12. Organize and implement program activities and uphold all camp policies, procedures, and safety standards for the wellbeing of staff and campers.RequirementsWhat You'll Do
  • Maintain an organized and clean facility, equipment, and supplies; report needed repairs.
  • Develop a positive rapport with all campers and parents.
  • Follow a weekly schedule of on and off camp activities.
  • Lead activities for campers that include but not limited to fishing, hiking, fire building and cooking, crafts, physical games, songs, nature, boating etc.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the health and safety of campers both in camp and off-site on adventure trips.
  • Lead adventure trips both on and away from camp that include but are not limited to: Hiking/Backpacking, Camping, Rock Climbing, Horseback Riding, Kayaking, Canoeing, and Caving.
  • Teach skills necessary to help the camper live comfortably in an outdoor setting while on trips.
  • Know and implement emergency procedures.
  • Provide adult to child ratio while on adventure trips.
  • Lead and instruct campers on adventure trips which may include setting up sites, being on time for activities, preparing meals, etc.
  • Effectively and respectfully communicate instructions, issues, and needs with campers, staff, and supervisors.
  • Ensure implementation of Girl Scout Leadership Experience and the Girl Scout Law.
  • Engage in learning to build skills towards respectfully interacting with people across cultures, ranges of ability, genders, ethnicities, and races.
  • Keep records of incidents, logbooks, and trip activities and return any required paperwork completed and on time.
  • Ability to adjust quickly when scheduled activities need to change and/or are no longer able to be done.
  • Uphold and respect camp and Girl Scout traditions both daily and weekly including daily debriefs with campers, Girl Scout Ceremonies, mealtimes, etc.
  • Supervise campers' participation in structured and unstructured activities.
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and creative in a variety of situations.
  • Assist with opening and closing of camp for the season.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • At least 21 years of age with a clean background check.
  • First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, WFR, WFA, or Lifeguard certification; or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to lift 40lbs and regularly walk, hike, and work outdoors in wooded areas as well as inclement weather and extreme temperatures.
  • Experience and desire in teaching, guiding, and working with children, and a desire to have a positive impact on campers' lives.
  • Comfort and ability to live, sleep, and work in a rustic outdoor environment with irregular hours.
  • Leadership, teamwork, and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Experience in various outdoor activities including but not limited to camping, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, etc.
  • Willingness to spend prolonged periods of time off camp with campers, getting minimal breaks.
  • Commitment to creating and maintaining a positive, fun, and professional environment.
  • Good driving record and valid driver's license for at least three years. Valid driver's license, compliance with the council's policy of automobile insurance limits, and a driving record that meets the requirements for coverage of the council's business auto insurance carrier.
  • Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
  • Willingness to subscribe to the philosophy of the Girl Scout program and enroll as a Girl Scout member.
  • Commitment to creating and maintaining a positive, fun, and professional environment.
  • Effectively and respectfully communicate instructions, issues, and needs with campers, staff, and supervisors.
  • Uphold and respect camp and Girl Scout traditions.
  • Willingness to be an active member of camp and all camp activities.
  • Must have background check completed by GSWISE.
