Job Description:
HOLT Truck Centers in Tyler, Texas is seeking an experienced Truck Field Service Technician. The incumbent for this position will provide exceptional customer service while inspecting, repairing, and providing maintenance to trucks, trailers, and attachments for On-Highway vehicles. Possession of a CDL Class A will be required.The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.Essential Functions:
  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Troubleshoots and repairs On-Highway trucks for both CAT and OEM
  • Performs engine and related equipment repairs on Trucks and Trailers
  • Travels to and from the job site for repairs and to retrieve parts
  • Listens and understands customer complaints, quotes and explains repair costs, and schedules appointments with customers while providing clear communications
  • Disassembles, inspects, determines parts required, and reassembles to factory specifications within TRGs
  • Provides quality control/assurance inspections of completed tasks to include road testing
  • Uses computers and related software to assist in diagnosing and reprograming engines
  • Completes documentation for service reports, timecards, parts requisition and returns
  • Interprets and utilizes information from operating, maintenance, online resources, and service manuals/bulletins
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in a good, clean, and working order
  • Orders parts needed to complete repairs and travels to pick-up
  • Completes and files documentation necessary to justify billing
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customers as needed
  • Responds to customer needs after hours when needed
  • Maintains a P Factor of 95% or greater
  • Maintains less than 1% rework for year's total sales
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and ability to explain how various systems function on trucks and trailers
  • General knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge and proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and On-Highway Truck electronic systems diagnostic tooling
  • Operation and control skills of On-Highway Trucks & Trailers
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow logical troubleshooting procedures

  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair & overhead crane

  • Ability to learn and navigate various software for both CAT and OEM

  • Ability to operate an On-Highway Truck on public roads
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands in order to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • Ability to read, write, and understand information
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program required
  • At least two years of experience required, three or more preferred
  • CDL - Class A or B required
  • ASE Certifications preferred
  • Ability to complete HOLT's VBL Classes, model HOLT's VBL Culture, and successfully apply the tools
  • Safety Training and task training required
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None
Travel:
  • Travel up to 40% and overnight travel may be required
Additional Requirements:
  • Must own and maintain the necessary tools to efficiently perform the job
  • Must have a clean driving record
Physical Requirements:
  • Significant amount of time sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, climbing, and reaching
  • Constant movement and use of hands, this position requires good manual dexterity
  • Communicates with customers, service managers, and co-workers
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Frequently lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 70 lbs.
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
Work Environment:
  • Frequently works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and exposed to weather extremes that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
  • Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings
  • Exposure to hazardous conditions and contaminants
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water and high speed rotating equipment
  • Works in extremely bright or inadequate lighting
  • Exposure to high noise levels
  • Works in an enclosed vehicle or equipment
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
