Job Description:

Consilio's ELS Direct Hire Staffing Division seeking for our Law firm client in Fairfax VA an experenced Trust and Estates Paralegal.

This is an in-office position for at least the first 90 days, with the possibility of a hybrid environment thereafter (no more than 2 days a week working from home on a pre-arranged schedule). The work week is 35 to 37.5 hours a week. Prior experience as a paralegal working with Trusts & Estates is required. Please only apply if local to Fairfax VA.

The Paralegal will provide comprehensive support for attorneys specializing in estate, trust administration and elder law. This person will be required to maintain positive working relationships with attorneys, support staff and clients; in addition this person will be required to maintain confidentiality of client and firm matters.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Assisting with administration of estates, conservatorships, and trusts.
  • Keeping track of status of assigned cases, including due dates for inventories and accountings.
  • Setting up new decedent's estate.
  • Preparing Notices, Lists of Heirs, Affidavits, Inventories, and Accountings as necessary in the administration process.
  • Setting up necessary background documents from clients for estate accounts.
  • Serving as interface between client and attorney.
  • Posting financial transactions using appropriate computer software.
  • Reconciling and reporting on financial records.
  • Producing appropriate inventories and accountings for review.
  • Preparing applications for Medicaid benefits.
  • Greeting clients and directly interfacing with clients on the administration process.
  • Responsibility for the proper creation, updating, maintenance and retrieval of related files.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Requirements/Experience:

  • Experience working at a law firm is required (2 - 5 years).
  • Experience in preparing court required inventories and accountings.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with close attention to detail.
  • High level of proficiency using a variety of office equipment, including personal computer, copier, scanner, and telephone, etc.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Demonstrate initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality and provide outstanding customer service to clients/contacts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
  • PC proficient, with typing accuracy and speed.
  • Strong MS Office (especially Word and Excel) and PDF editing skills; document management software experience is a plus.
  • Experience with GEMS software.
  • Ability to prioritize work.
