You must subject your email TTA - Data Specialist . This Opportunity is Intended for IRC Current Staff. IRC utilizes Power BI (PBI) to capture, process and share data internally and externally. The nature of these tool and the decentralized approach to utilize it make it easy for users to learn and use them within their operations. However, this comes with cost around the security of the data that is processed through PBI. This TTA will help us better understand and assess the PBI environment to be able to address the related security concerns without impacting the current usage of these tools. Responsibilities The key objective of this role is to conduct a thorough assessment of the PBI environment across the organization. The key responsibilities of this role will include:
  • Conduct a thorough assessment of PBI audit/monitoring toolkits and:
  • Identify the active PBI content (workspaces, reports, datasets, apps) and their audience (location, department, function)
  • Identify the inactive PBI content and report them to their relevant domain admins
  • Develop a PBI auditing/monitoring playbook to guide domain admins through different scenarios of using these tools and embedding them into their routines
  • Identify any data sharing related risks such as external sharing.
  • Identify the unrecommended PBI practices across the org such as: significant data and/or workspace sharing; same user publishing many datasets, build permissions for many users, admin rights for external users, etc.
  • Investigate the current use of premium capacities and advise on any trends (what are the operations that consume the most, where/when is this taking place, etc.).
  • Identify any significant use of unsanctioned data sources.
  • Identify any significant and/or recurring data export.
    • Understand and document the current use, needs and challenges of PBI through stakeholders' consultation sessions (this includes the user management processes, approval process, governance practices, etc.).
    • Review the current PBI Admin Portal settings and advise on the impact of any needed changes (as recommended by the PBI Tenant Admin) - who will be impacted, how they will be impacted, etc.)
    • Support PBI Domain Admins through training sessions and orientations on PBI audit/monitoring tools and best practices.
    • Provide recommendations to improve the current auditing/monitoring tools based on the feedback from stakeholders and the collected information about PBI usage.
    Key Working Relationships:
    • Position Reports to Data & Technology Advisor.
    • Work closely with the Data Protection Senior Advisor, CRRD & RAI Data Focal Points, and other stakeholders such as the Data Team leaders, GIS, and DevOps teams.
    Requirements:
    • Experience in PBI environment.
    • Experience in conducting systems analysis, systems evaluation or systems assessments.
    • Strategic analytical thinking.
