Currently hiring a Jr. & Sr. Geotechnical / Tunneling Engineer to join an International Engineering Firm, to join their team in the DC Metro Area! This is an excellent opportunity for growth, that offers a flexible working arrangement, as well as full benefits as well as 401k contribution.Job DescriptionPerform engineering and analysis for the design of tunnels and shafts in soft ground, mixed conditions, and rock (initial support and final lining).Use various tunnel construction methods such as drill and blast, sequential excavation method (SEM), or TBM.Perform 3-D soil-structure interaction analysis, geotechnical analysis, and dynamic analysis using advanced finite element software.Prepare detailed calculations, design drawings, and specifications.Coordinate with Technical Leads, Project Directors, Project Managers, design team, BIM/CADD team, and more.Apply rock and soil mechanics skills to evaluate various failure modes and develop ground support schemes.Prepare project documentation such as Technical Memos, Geotechnical Data, Interpretive, or Baseline Reports, or Basis of Design reports.Characterize and classify ground conditions for different tunneling methods based on geotechnical information.Communicate design work through the preparation of drawing sketches indicating support types, geometry, construction sequencing, and instrumentation.Use tunnel analysis and design software such as PLAXIS 2D and 3D, FLAC/FLAC3D, and other foundation design software.QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering3+ years of experience in Geotechnical Anaylsis and Design3+ years of experience with a mix of underground structure projectsKnowledge of soil and rock mechanicsExperience with TunnelingAdditional Qualifications for Sr. Geotechnical Engineer:Tunnel Design experienceExperience with various tunneling methods such as drill and blast, Sequential Excavation Method (SEM), and Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)Proficiency with tunnel analysis and design software (PLAXIS 2D and 3D, FLAC/FLAC3D, and other foundation design software)Work SiteThis is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in New York, New York and some days remote.About ActalentActalent is a global leader in engineering and sciences services and talent solutions.
