The coordinator is responsible for tutoring services and retention related activities/projects. The coordinator is responsible for supporting all phases of the division. The Tutoring Coordinator maintains a current knowledge of appropriate college and academic policies, processes and procedures in an effort to assure efficiency and integrity of tutoring and retention services. Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the tutoring program campus wide.
  • Coordinate the daily operations of the tutoring program including hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, certification, and evaluating peer tutors.
  • Develop and manage campus wide peer tutoring success plan.
  • Develop and maintain a state of the art and high quality tutoring program that meets the needs of all enrolled students.
  • Collaborate with academic departments and schools to ensure tutoring methods and offerings are with supporting success in class.
  • Coordinate orientation, in-service presentations, team building activities and professional development opportunities that support improvement and success of the peer tutoring program.
  • Responsible for routine data collection, reporting, and analysis of services to improve tutoring program effectiveness.
  • Schedule and manage the daily tutoring schedule for students' participation and attendance.
  • Provide tutoring reports for director and key stakeholders as requested.
  • Raise awareness of the tutoring service offerings and work with faculty to identify students for services. Collaborate with campus wide student service departments and organizations to develop innovative strategies to connect students with the tutoring program.
  • Research and coordinate with faculty to create effective tutoring materials and resources.
  • Develop a Tutoring Program Manual for faculty, students, peer tutors, and student service departments.
  • Maintain and document assigned students persistence and progression activity towards degree completion.
  • Serve as an instructor for the Student Success Course for SAP students.
  • Manage recruitment, scheduling, and success planning for assigned program participants.
  • Coordinate student success programs, seminars, and other innovative initiatives that facilitate student learning and support towards degree completion.
  • Assess students' needs based on collected and historical data to develop student success plans for successful completion.
  • Coordinate and manage summer transition support service component retention initiatives facilitated by retention services.
  • Collaborate and engage with faculty and campus wide student service departments to facilitate student success initiatives and projects that improve persistence, progression, retention, graduation, and completion.
  • Set up and manage communication (email, texts, social media, flyers, etc.) templates within system for mass student success campaigns to enrolled students for tutoring program and retention related activities.
  • Assist in the coordination and completion of special projects as requested.
  • Serve on student success related committees as a representation of the department.
  • Understands and adheres to the Values, Mission and Vision of Claflin University and the division.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of effective student success/academic support and retention strategies
  • Experience working in a learning center, tutoring center, or similar environment
  • Experience with hiring and training peer tutors/academic support personnel
  • Experience working with at-risk student populations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate schedules and work assignments.
  • Ability to supervise and manage in a collaborative and changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to pedagogy and student success strategies
  • Demonstrated skills in program assessment; data collection, reporting, and analysis to inform decision making
  • Working knowledge of student information database system
  • Proven knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office365 software, specifically proficient in the use of Publisher, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Also, Microsoft One Drive, Forms, TEAMs
  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication; and time management/task driven skills
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently as well as collaborative with other campus departments
  • Ability to organize and plan effectively and efficiently as a team and independently
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Pleasant, courteous and professional customer service skills
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in an academic discipline in Arts or Science. (Sociology, Counseling, etc.). Master's degree preferred. Experience working on a college campus in a student services office with a diverse population of college level students is strongly preferred.
