Come be a part of our team!POSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide direct patient care to surgical patients during their stay in the Surgery Center. Responsible for prioritizing the delivery of direct nursing care using time and resources efficiently integrating high standards to promote positive surgical outcomes.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting individual patient needs, actions taken and patient responses.
- Coordinates patients' care through collaboration with the patient/family and healthcare team.
- Performs assessments, with consideration to an age specific plan of care, per surgery center standards/policy and documents appropriate database.
- Demonstrates general and specific knowledge in a variety of ophthalmic and plastic procedures and implements the principles of surgical asepsis and AORN Standards.
- Performs circulating and or scrubbing duties, as needed demonstrating high standards of care following AORN, OSHA, and Surgery Center policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain an efficient pace in the OR to avoid delays and ensure rapid room turnover.
- Participates, facilitates and ensures patient preparedness for surgery. Communicates and prioritizes efficiently and effectively.
- Assists the anesthesia provider during the induction and emergence from anesthesia.
- Monitors physiological alterations recognizing symptoms of cardiac arrest, respiratory distress and/or other impending crisis and initiates necessary emergency action from time of induction during surgery, and end of surgery. Documents and reports to recovery room nurse.
- Documents all care with accuracy, precision, and completeness.
- Identifies, labels, administers medications and solutions safely and documents appropriately.
- Delegates or assigns aspects of patient care to the healthcare team members commensurate with their validated competency to perform the task. Assumes responsibility for the clinical supervision of non-licensed assistive personnel.
- Performs competently in emergency situations.
- Maintains patient safety, promotes a therapeutic environment and serves as the patient advocate.
- Labels and reports malfunctioning equipment, instruments, etc., and communicates repairs and ensures that follow through occurs.
- Ensures that operating rooms are stocked and that excess sterile items or equipment are removed and appropriately stored after each case, and at the end of the shift.
- Assists in orientation of new staff and serves as a resource person and professional model.
- Assumes other leadership roles (i.e. charge and relief charge) as required by the department.
- The annual completion of assigned Learning Management System (LMS) courses is mandatory. Any individual who has not completed their assigned training prior to November 30th of each year may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two to three years' college level courses/ Associates Degree or Diploma in nursing.
- Current State of NM Registered Nurse Nursing License.
- Requires at least 3 years of experience in an operating room or day surgery facility.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
