We are seeking our next TxDOT Contract Training Specialist who will be all-in on our mission and who will be responsible for coordinating and managing the TxDOT Heavy Equipment and CDL training contracts at Amarillo College. This role involves planning and scheduling training courses, supporting instructors, advising students, and handling administrative tasks such as budgeting and report generation. Additionally, the specialist will develop new training contracts, enhance curriculum, analyze program data, and ensure quality assurance. Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaborate with stakeholders. Qualifications EDUCATION:Required: Associate degree in Business or related field.Preferred: Bachelor degree.Two (2) additional years of experience in working with contracts will substitute for education (municipality, private, state, etc.).EXPERIENCE:Required: Three (3) or more years contract training experience or experience with a state agency who worked with contracts.Preferred: Previous experience with TxDOT training programs Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Amarillo College and TxDOT representatives, ensuring clear communication and alignment of training objectives.
  • Promptly respond to TxDOT training needs by assigning instructors to available courses.
  • Strategically plan and coordinate the scheduling of classes and instructors across the state of Texas.
  • Proactively reach out to TxDOT and/or other partners to schedule classes when an instructor's class load falls below one class per week.
  • Analyze performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement/additional offerings in the training program. Provide recommendations for instructional adjustments based on data findings obtained from previous year offerings.
  • Ensure that all training materials are up-to-date and compliant with TxDOT guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Regularly prepare and present detailed reports on program performance to department heads and TxDOT officials.
  • Collaborate and partner with TxDOT instructors and subject matter experts (i.e. private sector partners, county or municipal leaders) to develop and refine training curricula to meet evolving industry standards and TxDOT requirements.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to expand the TxDOT training program by identifying and pursuing new training contracts with government agencies, private sector companies, and industry partners.
  • Proactively engage with businesses across various industries to identify their training needs and expand opportunities for collaboration.
  • Plan and schedule contract course offerings, instructional materials, equipment, and teaching aids for all contract training courses.
  • Organize professional development opportunities for staff to ensure they remain current in their knowledge and instructional skills.
  • Maintain a webpage that accurately reflects training offerings and solicits new partnerships.
  • Advise, enroll, and register students from TxDOT, Private Sector, State and Local agencies.
  • Prepare budget documents and reports. Plan and monitor the use of expenditures to meet departmental and organizational objectives and compliance. Coordinate purchases of equipment and/or supplies to recommend items for departments and budgets.
  • Make travel arrangements for department personnel as needed.
  • Participate in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • In-depth understanding of Texas geography
  • Comprehensive knowledge of TxDOT policies, procedures, and guidelines related to training programs.
  • Familiarity with analyzing performance metrics to drive continuous improvement in training programs.
  • Awareness of evolving trends and standards in transportation and training to ensure course content is current and compliant.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in liaising with government officials (TxDOT), industry leaders, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to proactively seek out new opportunities, partnerships, and contracts to expand the TxDOT training program.
Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position. Pay grade 9 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.Working Conditions: Occasional overtime hours may be required. Overtime hours must be approved by supervisor and/or cabinet member prior to work. Must maintain the ability to work well with a team or independently.Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
