The University Assistant for First Year Advising is responsible for delivering academic advising for a caseload of new first-year students. The position requires a creative and knowledgeable professional who will work collaboratively with the Academic Success Center staff to provide high quality support services.
The University Assistant for First Year Advising position is an in-person 19 hours per week position.
Responsibilities
* Provide direct advising and academic support services to a caseload of first-year students
* Record student notes to keep accurate track of all student interactions
* Assist with the implementation of advising programs to support student learning outcomes
* Present workshops on academic planning, advising and registration
* Promote student success through appropriate campus resource referrals
* Assist with onboarding of new students throughout intersession periods in collaboration with the student orientation program
* Provide general supplemental advising for all Eastern students through walk-in advising
* Provide academic advising intervention services for first-year advisee on academic probation
* Perform other duties as assigned
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:
* Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
* Experience working with traditional college age students preferred
* Cultural awareness and competency working with diverse student populations
* Effective verbal and written communication skills
* Must be able to work independently and manage multiple priorities
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty and staff
