Job Summary and Qualifications

As an Ultrasound Sonographer, you would perform diagnostic procedures utilizing a background in anatomy, physiology, physics and instrumentation to provide technical information to aid the physician. The sonographer will maintain technical skills needed to perform ultrasound procedures to include abdominal, OB/GYN, venous Doppler, small parts, pediatrics (where applicable) and invasive exams. In addition, the sonographer will maintain department supplies and equipment and will participate in the quality control of the ultrasound department.

  • Maintain skills and understanding of innovation in techniques and equipment in medical sonography.
  • Assists physicians in performing ultrasound-guided biopsies and other invasive procedures.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Responsible for the proper use of the Radiology Computer System (scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, proper completion of exams, capture charges).
  • Follows safety policies and procedures applicable to the job, recognizes impending crisis situations and institutes measures (such as adjusting priorities) to prevent further complications.
  • Understands and follows infection control/universal precautions in the performance of all job tasks. Maintains order and cleanliness. Always practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination.

What qualifications you will need:Education: ONE of the following: 1. New Hires as of October 1, 2011: A. Successful completion of training program in either:

  • Ultrasonography
  • Radiologic Technology
  • Vascular Technology
B. Associates of Science or higher degree

2. Current employees: A. Successful completion of training program in either:

  • Ultrasonography
  • Radiologic Technology
  • Vascular Technology
B. Associates degree or higher degree Experience: none required; Preferred: Two (2) years experience as a fulltime ultrasound technologist in a hospital or diagnostic imaging clinic setting preferred.
