JOB SUMMARY:
The Underwriting Manager leads the Mortgage Banker Finance underwriting team with extensive knowledge of mortgage banker finance, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage and mentor a team of underwriters. Research and implement best process practices and leverage the use of technology and automation to ensure mortgage banker finance credit review processes are efficient, accurate, and service-focused. Underwrite routine, difficult, or complex transaction requests and monitor sellers, investors, transactions, and third parties to support the credit compliance of the mortgage banker finance team and become a subject matter expert on related systems, along with an understanding of the end-to-end process of mortgage banker finance products.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
* Oversee and manage a team of underwriters, ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
* Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of seller applications, seller renewals, investor approvals, and mortgage transactions, ensuring that all counterparties and transactions meet established credit quality standards.
* Review underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures for current market suitability. Ensure efficient and effective processing and underwriting of transactions.
* Provide training, guidance, and professional development opportunities for underwriters and other mortgage banker finance staff to enhance their skills and performance.
* Ensure all underwriting activities comply with federal and state regulations, as well as internal policies and guidelines.
* Monitor the performance of the underwriting team and the overall loan portfolio, providing regular reports and insights to senior management.
* Foster positive relationships with clients, addressing their needs and concerns promptly and professionally.
* Performs other duties as may be assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY:
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
* Strong financial analysis and ability to translate financial spreads into accurate narratives in support of Management Credit Committee decisions.
* Knowledge / Proficient with all aspects of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and Internet.
* Proficiency with LoanVantage underwriting system and the mortgage banker finance system of record, WLS.
* Possess excellent human relations, communications, and business writing skills.
* Possess effective time management and organizational skills.
* Demonstrates teamwork in facilitating workflow.
* Elevated level of cooperation with others and is responsive to the Bank's needs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience in mortgage warehouse lending, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
