Responsibilities
The Unit Clerk is responsible for receptionist and clerical tasks on the nursing unit. She/he assists the nurses in maintaining unit communications and the transcription/transmittal of physicians' orders, as appropriate. Greets and assists patients, visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff. Answer telephones within the nurses' station, responds to general information requests and conveys messages. Participates in maintaining complete; accurate medical records and a current patient/unit data within the information system. Performs routine clerical tasks including order entry/data retrieval, as appropriate to the clinical area. Assists in providing prompt response to patient's call system, refers requests promptly and appropriately. Places calls to physicians' offices and to other departments as requested. Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient's rights. Maintains confidentiality of the patient.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Medical terminology and computer skills preferred.
