Provides patient care based on the principles and practices of Practical Nursing, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse that does not require the substantial specialized skill, judgment and knowledge required of professional nursing. Performs a wide range of clerical, receptionist, dispatching and admitting/discharge duties in support of assigned patient care department.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:1. Current West Virginia licensure for practical nursing or licensure for practical nursing in another state with a temporary West Virginia practice permit.2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Responsible for greeting and admitting functions upon patients' arrival to the department including accurately preparing patient identification bands.2. Provides direct patient care as well as therapeutic procedures to all assigned patients to promote comfort.3. Consistently practices AIDET.4. Assists physicians and the Registered Nurse with examinations and procedures, as assigned.5. Utilizes available supplies in a cost-effective manner to help contain patient costs.6. Contributes to the nursing assessment by collecting, reporting and recording objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner. Seeks guidance from Registered Nurse in delivery of nursing care as necessary.7. Notifies referring physician of admission, as required.8. Assists in assigned patient and family education and rehabilitation by reviewing patient needs with the Registered Nurse and following the teaching plan.9. Responsible for clerical discharge functions; schedules follow-up appointments, lab work, and diagnostic procedures. Completes discharge in the computer and fax copies of appropriate information to designated areas.10. Coordinates and facilitates ongoing communication to ensure efficient intradepartmental and interdepartmental operations.11. Maintains competency in IV insertion. Safely administers intramuscular, subcutaneous, IV and oral medications as assigned.12. Accepts accountability for care provided by self and health care providers to whom care is delegated.13. Enters into EPIC System any written and/or telephone physician orders in an accurate, consistent and timely manner.14. Assists physicians and other individuals by providing requested information about specific patient or department routines in accordance with the hospital's policy on Release of Patient Information.15. Phones in consults to other services in a timely and accurate manner.16. Coordinates and facilitates ongoing communication to ensure timely, efficient intradepartmental and interdepartmental transportation of patients.17. Obtains and completes laboratory orders accurately and according to hospital protocol.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Demonstrates knowledge of pain management to facilitate patient comfort through a proactive pain control plan.4.
