Job Title: Unit Secretary
Job Summary
Handles all telephone calls on a nursing unit; greets visitors and residents; facilitates communication to, from, and within the Nursing Unit; maintains charts and requisitions necessary for care and the implementation of procedures and treatments.
Essential Job Functions
* Handles telephone calls for unit, answers telephone, monitors/ operates switchboard and transfers calls and takes messages as needed. Covers other units as directed.
* Patients/ residents are checked regularly to ensure that they have name, unit, room number and applicable alerts on their arm identification band, wheelchair, and/ or walker.
* Facilitates communication to, from, and within the nursing unit.
* Make announcements using the intercom clearly and accurately per department guidelines.
* Carries out correct company policies and procedures during emergency situations.
* Charts are set up for new residents immediately.
* Maintains and distributes unit specific documentation as per department guidelines and regulatory standards.
* Ensures discharged residents' charts are sent to Medical Records within 48 hours.
* Ensures residents' charts are audited and Thinned monthly for completeness and accuracy.
* Enters orders into PCC to the appropriate department after they have been signed and verified by a physician or a physician extender.
* Residents weights are recorded in designated book and on patients chart monthly
* Blood pressure and pulse are recorded in designated book and on patients record.
* Medication administration record (MAR) book and nurses' progress notes are checked daily, as needed, for missing signatures and flagged according to hourly shifts.
Job Requirements
Education:
* High School Diploma or equivalent
* Graduate of a Certified Nursing Assistant Program preferred
Experience:
* Minimum 6 months office clerical experience preferably in a healthcare setting
Licenses/Certifications:
* Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
* Certified by the State of Florida as a Certified Nursing Assistant preferred
Abilities Required
* Knowledge of medical terminology
* Ability to work with geriatric patients
* Computer literacy/ Proficiency in Microsoft Office
* Flexible with work hours to meet facility needs.
* Competent in the operation and use of lift, wheelchairs, bed controls, scales and vital sign monitoring equipment
